Frontiers of Interaction 2007

When I first contacted Leandro with a proposal to produce an event on innovation, cool technologies and user experience back in 2005 I’d never ever had thought that it would be so successfull to be repeated for three full years.

Ladies and gentlemen please welcome The Interaction Frontiers 2007 which will be held at University Bicocca in Milan on the 28th of June starting at 9 completely free for all (registration required – this year we also have a cool Bastard personalized t-shirt for our guests).

While the 2005 theme was user experience/interaction, the 2006 one was on new interactions, this year edition will be about The Internet of things: we’ll have mindstorm robots, human-like robots, ebook readers, nazbatag and all that sort of geekeries available for a try… you really shouldn’t loose them!

This year keynote speaker is Jeffrey Schnapp from Stanford University, a bright minded man who founded the Stanford Humanities Lab:

“a Center for Transdiciplinary/Post-Disciplinary Study. We discover fascinating futures to be explored in ignoring and crossing disciplinary borders.

With new developments in areas such as biotech, digital culture, global society, SHL believes that some crucial questions — about what it is to be human, about experience in a connected world, about the boundaries of culture and nature — transcend the old divisions between the arts, sciences and humanities, between the academy, industry and the cultural sphere.

We engage in experimental projects with a “laboratory” ethos — collaborative, co-creative, team-based — involving a triangulation of arts practice, commentary/critique, and outreach, merging research, pedagogy, publication and practice. We don’t just comment and discuss, we build: new media, interactive archives, predictive models of social change, new courses, collaborative research workshops, art exhibitions.”

With such a background we’re really entrigued to have him on board!

We’ll daily blog our progress on the event site; we already delivered the press release, next appointment is to fix the agenda and release A3 poster to you all. Stay tuned!

Healthier Life

An healthier life for Matteo

“Mens sana in corpore sano” (Healthy mind in healthy body) said the Latins: it’s a couple of weeks I decided to stop the progressive enfatment of my body; my “a slimmer Matteo” project is formed by two different tasks:

  1. Gym at the club (at least twice per week)
  2. Reduced fat insertion

The first point is really tough. During work days I have a 9-8 work schedule which leaves really tiny spaces for everything else then family; I managed this with an anticipated office entry at 8.40 on Wednesday (which syncronizes with my needs to buy car parking weekly ticket right on that day) quitting the office at 6pm (this often needs some meeting scheduling magics my side): I’m at the fitness club at 7pm and 8.30 pm I’m entering home. Bright.

Point two requires less time management but a whole lot more mind (and stomach) management. I love food at least as much as I love sex, thus you kind imagine how it could be difficult to say “no thanks, I’m ok”; I’ve also been educated to think abou myself as one of the winners of the biological lottery which made possible for me to live in the “right” part of the world, so I really dislike leaving food in the dish. Sum this with the fact that, at least one or two times a week I have job lunches/dinners where the quality and quantity raise their pick and you should have a clearer view.
I’ve been able to limit the fat insertion by choosing to drink one glass of wine each day as a maximum and preferring low fat foods like chicken or vegetables (it’s hard my friends, it’s REALLY hard).

Starting last week I’m tracking my wheight using google docs: you can take a look at my progress here (an RSS feed is available to those of you who really want to be ALWAYS updated). I’m tracking fitness club usage and business lunches too to evaluate whether or not they influence my wheight loss.

Your support would really be appreciated. :-)

Update: Given the fact I haven’t received any support from you, my dear reader, :-) I’d like to point you out that today, October 17, 2007 my weight is more or less 76,5 Kilos; (see graph) which is 4,5 Kilos less then my weight ath the time I started this post and 7 Kilos (!!) less the weight I had after summer vacations.

30 seconds of celebrity

Matteo Penzo on TG1It’s been a while I haven’t blogged, most of all because of working times expanding widely fagocitating my spare time. But now I’m sick at home and have some time to spend writing. So here we go.

I had my first 30 seconds of celebrity last Wednesday, 18 when a troup of the main Italian TV news entered my office to interview me about the Gabetti/Second Life project and then aired it BOTH on the lunchtime AND primetime show.

Unfortunately I hadn’t the chance to see me “live” but, if you hold a PC – since the video seems not to be working on Macs – you can take a look at the digital version on the TG1 website.

I just have a creepy quality AVI video so won’t post anything at the moment. I’m waiting for a hi-res DVD containing the interview.

Oh… and by the way: I really need my diet objectives to be pursued!
